Standard Terms for Editing Services

Services and Turnaround Time

Four editing services are available—Standard (copy editing), Advanced (stylistic/substantive editing), Journal Formatting, and Proofreading.

The standard turnaround time varies, but most manuscripts can be returned within 4 to 10 business days. For long manuscripts or heavy editing, the turnaround time may increase. Rush service (return within 3 business days or when evening or weekend work is necessary to meet your deadline) may be available on request.

File Formats

Editing corrections are done in MS Word with Track Changes turned on. Author queries are added by using the Comment feature in MS Word or by highlighting them within brackets in the text (your choice).

Proofreading corrections are done by annotating PDF files in Adobe Acrobat or marking up paper printouts.

Pricing

The standard rate for editing services is $85 (CAD). Whether you require Advanced or Standard Science Editing, I will send you an estimate for the maximum cost before work begins. If I work more quickly than estimated, I will reduce your fee accordingly.

Rush rates apply if work is required within 3 business days, or when evening or weekend work is necessary to meet your deadline. The rush rate for Advanced or Standard Science Editing is $125 per hour.

Payment

I accept payment by PayPal or bank-to-bank transfer (a wire fee of $30 will be added). Payment is required within 1 week of receiving the invoice for editing services.

Author's Responsibilities

I refrain from making unnecessary corrections, preferring to maintain your style and voice whenever possible. In addition, I make every effort to avoid error; however, as the subject matter expert, you are responsible for the content and final structure of your document.

My Guarantee

All of my services are completely guaranteed. When I return your edited manuscript, I will ask you whether you are satisfied with the quality of my work. If you are unhappy with the English-language editing, you may contact me within 3 weeks to request a re-edit or a refund.

Agreeing to Terms

Thank you for your interest in my editing services. If you agree to the standard terms as posted here, please e-mail me, indicating your acceptance, details about the services you require, and the options you have selected.

Privacy Policy

Your personal information is considered confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties. Please view the Privacy Policy for more information.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts submitted to the BioMedical Editor for an estimate or for editing services are considered confidential.

The specifics of service contracts are also held in confidence. After a project has been completed, company or institution names may be listed on the "Valued Clients" section of this Web site. Signed testimonials are used only with written permission.
